Hebden Bridge in Spring – A Wild Food Forage

Sunday 6th May 2018 – 11.00am to 3.30pm

Hebden Bridge is renowned for its beautiful countryside, interesting independent shops, eclectic mix of inhabitants, and much more. The town is intriguing and its surroundings are spectacular. This event is a great chance to get to know the natural scenery of the area from a different perspective. An extensive walk/forage will take us through a wooded valley up to open meadow land high above Hebden Bridge. The mixture of habitats promise to yield a wide array of exciting and delicious springtime edibles, from leaves and flowers, to nourishing underground tubers, and with a little luck, some of the finest seasonal wild mushrooms.

Following our forage we will return to the start of the walk where we will spend the remainder of the afternoon leisurely reviewing our finds, preparing and cooking up our best wild edible ingredients, and sampling a selection of wild alcoholic wines (adults only!).

This is a popular event and spaces are limited.

TAKE IT TO THE BRIDGE- Hebden’s Pop Choir

TAKE IT TO THE BRIDGE is Hebden’s very own pop choir. We sing 80s and 90s pop hits in glorious four-part harmony. No backing tracks or beatboxing – just great a cappella singing.

Our marvellous choir members are mostly local to Hebden Bridge. They’re hard-working and committed and they’re united by their love of a good 80s choon. Some of them are experienced amateur singers; many have no formal musical training. For some, this is their first experience of singing in a choir. We’re insanely proud of them all and the beautiful, high-quality sound they make.

Liz Powers is our brilliant director, and the all-new musical arrangements are by Alison Crutchley. Last year’s POPTASTIC GIG was on Saturday 10th June 2017. Visit our Facebook page for videos and pictures from the event.

**STOP PRESS** We are currently recruiting singers for TAKE IT TO THE BRIDGE 2018. So if you’re someone who can sing in tune, hold your line (i.e. stay on your part while others are singing something different), and you’re not afraid of homework, contact us to put your name on our list and receive updates.

Rehearsal dates 2018

Rehearsals take place in the Birchcliffe Centre, Hebden Bridge. (We’re in the ‘event space’, on the upper floor; follow the path round the right hand side of the building, go up the steps and the door is on your left.) Rehearsals run on Fridays from 7:30pm-9:30pm.

The first rehearsal is on Friday 9th March 2018. Rehearsals will run weekly until the gig on Saturday 9th June 2018, with a couple of exceptions.

A Pilates class suitable for beginners and those returning to exercise after having a baby.

In this mat based class we will look at using Pilates to support your post-natal journey back in to moving well. Whilst mums have an opportunity to re-introduce their bodies to the world of Pilates, babies can snooze in car seats or lie on their own mat near to their mum.

Babies must be at least 6 weeks old and can come until they are 8 months old. Mothers must have received the thumbs up from their health care provider to say that they are okay to begin exercising again.

This class will address pelvic floor issues, help you to improve your posture and assist in reconditioning for the whole body. It is also a great opportunity to meet other mums and you are welcome to stay for a chat after class with tea and coffee provided. The practical element of class will be approximately 45 minutes.

We recommend that you book a block of classes, make Pilates a regular habit and see the full benefit of what attending class regularly can do for you. However, we appreciate that it’s not always possible to make it to class every week. Buy a block of 5 classes for £35 and you can use them when suits you over a period of 3 months from the purchase date.

Hebden Bridge School

An exciting and innovative approach to learning a language is now available for children at our new after-school Spanish Club.

Our highly experienced bilingual teacher Anil Sarna, will be bringing Spanish to life through active play, singing, drama, and even yoga. Reading and writing will be turned into fun activites. There will also be the chance to enjoy Spanish in nature with the club taking to the woods or a farm.

Anil, who has successfully taught from primary to A level, said: “Learning languages is known to improve comunication skills, empathy, self-confidence, and of course opens up the world to new experiences and undertanding. It is great fun too!”

Studies also show that the younger children start to learn, the better.  Free from the inhibitions of adults,  pupils are very receptive to learning a new language and  pronunciation is significantly easier.

The club, will be held at the Birchcliffe Centre in Hebden Bridge and will restart on Wednesday 10th January. The club will run for 11 weeks from 4pm to 5pm until the 28th March. There will be no class on 21st February due to half-term.

The price will be £77 for the full term for 11 classes, and as with the initial programme there are two choices of payment schedule:

£22 as an initial payment and then £5 per week for the 11 weeks= £77. Alternatively you can pay the full sum in advance for a reduced price of £70.

Students can do a trial class before they decide to commit to the full package.

Zen4

The Hebden Bridge Zen group are a Soto Zen group who meet regularly to sit together here in Hebden Bridge. We also organise talks, plus day and residential retreats with visiting teachers – these always involve tea and cake!

We’re an open friendly collection of folk and our door is always open to anyone who wants to meditate with us and our squishy cracked-head Buddha 🙂

hands

Wednesday Evenings (at Blessingway, Birchcliffe Centre)
Door open at 7.15pm
7.30 – 8.00 zazen
8.00 – 8.10 kinhin
8.10 – 8.40 zazen
8.40 – 8.50 service (chanting)

We practice in Soto Zen form but you are welcome to do your own meditation practice. On Wednesday evening we practice a traditional Zen form and finish the evening with a service consisting of one or two chants, often followed by the Refuge Prayers.  Whilst we don’t have a resident Zen teacher, there will often be someone who will be able to offer basic instruction on how we meditate if you are completely new to Zen practice.

If this sounds daunting, don’t worry, feel free to give Rebecca a call on 07970 425 932 for a chat about it.
